Plan Card Layout: Your Guide to Choosing the Perfect Electricity Plan

To make things easy, we’ll break out our standard Energy Plan Card into 7 columns. Each column includes valuable details to help you choose the electricity plan that’s perfect for you.

Provider and Plan Information

  • In the first column, we show the following:
  •
  • Logo of the provider offering the plan
  • The plan name – Make a note of this! You’ll need it if you’re redirected to the provider’s website for signup.
  • Plan Feature Icons that indicate
    • Green – Plans sourced with 100% Renewable Energy
    • Solar Buyback – Earn money for every kWh you put back on the grid!
    • EV Charging – Save when charging your EV!
    • Time of Use – Conserve energy during peak hours, saving during off-peak hours.
    • Pool Connect – Run your pool during certain times and save!
    • Bill Credits – Know your usage? Save with Bill Credits!
    • Prepaid / No Deposit – No Credit? No Problem!
  •  Explore Plan Details – This expands the card to show the important details about the selected plan.

Advertised Price

  • Knowing the Estimate, Avoiding the Surprise.
  •
  • We believe in transparency, and the Advertised Price helps as a starting point based on different home sizes. However, it only tells part of the story. Advertised Price includes factors like monthly fees and discounts, which can impact your bill. Understanding these conditions helps you avoid surprises and choose the plan that best fits your needs. Want a more precise picture? Explore our True Price™ calculation for a more accurate representation of your potential bill.

True Price

  • Unveiling the Electricity Cost You Truly Pay.
  •
  • Forget estimates and surprises! True Price shows you the exact price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) you’ll pay. Compare our True Price to the Advertised Price. If they are within 1¢ ($0.01) or less of each other, you’re looking at a straightforward plan without conditions. You get what you see.
  •
  • If they’re not close in price, the plan has special conditions. In that case, you want to explore the plan’s details to see what those conditions are and if they apply to your situation. Learn more about our True Price here

Monthly Estimate

  • Accurate Estimates, No Surprises! Ditch the Simple Guesswork.
  •
  • Most estimates multiply an averaged price by your usage, which can be misleading. Your actual bill considers more factors than just an average price.
  •
  • We go beyond the guesswork and use the same method as your provider, including fixed fees, potential credits, and minimums. This ensures your monthly estimate accurately reflects what you can expect on your bill. While taxes and state fees like PUC assessments aren’t included, our monthly estimate gives you a clear picture of the plan’s cost compared to others.
  •
  • Remember to consider your expected usage when reviewing the estimate. Compare Monthly Estimates and True Prices across plans to find the most cost-effective option for your needs! Start exploring now and make informed choices for your electricity future!

Total Fixed Fees

  • Know Your Fix Costs: Unlocking Transparency in Fixed Fees.
  •
  • Fixed fees are charges you pay each month, regardless of your usage. These include your Transmission & Delivery Charge (TDU) and Provider Base Charge.
  •
  • TDU charges are the same for everyone in your area and typically range from $4 to $5, while base charges vary by provider and plan. These fixed fees impact the Advertised Price. The higher the fixed fees, the larger the gap between the True Price and the Advertised Price.
  •
  • By comparing Total Fixed Fees and True Prices across plans, you can avoid hidden costs and find the best fit for your budget. Start exploring now and unlock electricity that’s easy to understand and budget for!

Term

  • Your Timing, Your Savings Advantage!
  •
  • The Term is your plan’s duration, but renewing during peak seasons like winter or summer can cost you. Understanding Term empowers you to choose a plan that aligns with your usage and avoids expensive renewals.
  •
  • Be a smart shopper: If your ideal long-term plan renews during peak season, consider a short-term plan (e.g., 3-6 months). Rates might be slightly higher, but you could save up to $100/month by avoiding peak season renewals!
  •
  • By factoring in Term with your usage and budget, you can control your costs and find your perfect plan. We clearly mark expiration months on every card, empowering informed decisions. We provide this information to help you save, not promote specific plans.

Renewable Percent
  • This number shows the percentage of your energy that comes from clean, renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. Choosing a plan with a higher percentage helps the environment and supports sustainability. With 100% renewable energy, you power your home responsibly and minimize your impact on the planet!
Rate Type
  • There are two main rate types:
    • • Fixed Rate: Your rate stays the same throughout your plan duration, offering predictability and budgeting ease. (Recommended for most customers)
    • • Variable Rate: Your rate fluctuates monthly based on market prices, potentially offering lower costs but requiring more flexibility.
    •
  • To choose the right rate type, consider your usage patterns and comfort with fluctuating costs.
Cancellation Fee
  • This is also known as an Early Termination Fee (ETF).
  •
  • Cancelling your plan early may incur a fee. These fees come in two types:
    • • Flat Fee: A one-time charge, typically $100 or more.
    • • Per-Month Fee: A charge for each remaining month on your contract, ranging from $20-$50.
  •
  • Understanding these fees helps you make informed decisions about your energy plan.

    • • Additional details: Unique aspects like different prices for usage during different times of the day.

Advertised Price Details
  • This section helps you understand providers’ advertised rates and make informed decisions.

  • • Advertised Rates
    • Providers show rates at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWh usage levels, representing small, medium, and large homes. While these numbers offer a starting point, it is crucial to look beyond them. These prices include fixed fees and bill credits, which can impact your bill.

    • For straightforward plans, you want these prices to be consistent, slightly decreasing as the usage level increases. If there’s a significant variation in pricing at the different usage levels, you’ll want to dig into the plan details to understand the reason for the variation. Otherwise, you could get a bill that is higher than expected.
  •
  • • Bill Credit and Minimums
    • Bill Credits: Some plans offer discounts (e.g., $125) for reaching specific usage levels. This could be a cause for significant variations in advertised prices.
    • Minimums: Certain plans charge a minimum fee if your bill falls below a specific amount. Knowing your usage is key to ensuring you’re not paying more than you need to.
  •
  • • EFL (Electricity Facts Label) link.
    • This is the link to the plan’s EFL. This document contains all the details about the plan, including fees, charges, and terms. Knowing how to read the EFL is critical to being an informed shopper.
  •
  • Reminder: Advertised rates are just the beginning. Understanding fees, credits, and plan details through our card details is crucial for making the best decision for your energy needs.
True Price Details
  • True Price helps you make informed decisions about your electricity plan by showing exactly what you pay per kWh.
  •
  • Here’s what you’ll see:
    • • True Price value: This represents the total per kWh cost you pay for electricity usage (excluding taxes).
    • • Provider’s Energy Charge: This is the raw amount the provider charges you per kWh, giving you a direct comparison across plans. It is arguably the most important piece of information in any electric plan
    • • TDU Usage Charge: This is the fee your local utility charges for delivering electricity, which is the same for all users in your area.
  •
  • Remember, True Price helps you focus on the actual cost of electricity usage, empowering you to compare plans effectively and choose the one that best fits your needs. Learn more here
Fixed Fee Details
  • This section breaks down the fixed fees associated with your plan, which don’t change based on your usage. We show you the total amount and then dive into specific fees charged by the provider and the TDU (Transmission and Distribution Utility).
  •
  • Breakdown of Fixed Fees:
    • • Provider Base Charge Providers don’t always charge a monthly base fee, but if they do, it should be between $5 and $10. Anything higher requires a closer look.
    • • TDU Delivery Charge: These cover maintaining and delivering electricity. Regardless of the chosen plan, they’re the same for everyone in your area.
  •
  • Understanding Fixed Fees and True Price:
  • Plans with low True Price might have higher Fixed Fees, while a higher True Price may have lower Fixed Fees. Consider the total cost, including Fixed Fees, to make an informed decision. Understanding fixed fees empowers you to compare plans accurately and choose the best fit for your needs. Our Monthly Estimate Calculation considers all relevant factors, including fixed fees, providing a realistic estimate of your potential bill.
